Language (10 hours weekly)

A course of seminars on contemporary Italian civilization, for example:

italian and regional studies

- Viaggio nel folklore italiano (A journey through Italian folklore), with a historical outline and an anthropological analysis of Carnival and the Venetian masks; of Tarantism of Salento, the tarantella from the south of Italy and other popular mediterranean folk-dances in general.
- La Mafia e la mentalità mafiosa (The Mafia and the mafia mentality), a course based on the authoritative testimony of Judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, as well as readings from Roberto Saviano's book Gomorra (Gomorrah).

 

Workshop (10 hours weekly)

During which you will either meet an expert on the subject of Tarantism and folk-dances, watch a demonstration lesson of one of these dances and join a workshop on masks, or sit in on a discussion among politicians or writers on the mafia in Italy and learn about the activities of the association Libera terra (Land free), which works the land confiscated from the Mafia in Sicily.

According to the period, you can choose to visit significant places or events with your teacher, such as:
- Venice during Carnival, during the Festa del Redentore celebrating our Saviour, or during the historical Boat Race
- The medieval celebration at Brisighella
- Ferrara during the Palio, considered the oldest in the world
