Language (10 hours weekly)

Because of the vast proportions of the subject, the teacher will hold seminars dealing with one specific subject in class, devoted in particular to contemporary Italian literature, for example:

  • Neorealism and the Resistance in Il sentiero dei nidi di ragno (The Path to the Nest of Spiders) by Italo Calvino, L’Agnese va a morire by Renata Viganò and some writings by the great journalist Enzo Biagi, who passed away recently

  • Italian literature by women writers, studying historical elements and a comparative analysis of Non ti muovere (Don’t Move) by Margareth Mazzantini, from which the film by Sergio Castellitto was made, and Sono pazza di te by Rossana Campo.

Workshop (10 hours weekly)

There will be the opportunity to go to book-presentations at one of the many bookshops in town, such as Libreria delle donne or Feltrinelli, and to Italian literature lectures at the Faculty of Letters of the oldest university in Europe. And you will also be able to watch a film-showing during the Bologna cinema and literature festival Le parole dello schermo.

You may choose to visit significant places or events with your teacher, such as:

  • The Mantua Festival of Literature in September

  • Florence, the hometown of Dante Alighieri, father of Italian

  • Ferrara, the town where Ludovico Ariosto lived, author of Orlando furioso
    (The Frenzy of Orlando)

You will be given detailed information about the most important events concerning public readings, encounters with authors and much more.
